My name is Shellie Kennedy and I am a writer who graduated Penn State University with a degree in Medieval Studies. I am the Program Specialist at the Troutman Branch of the Iredell County Public Library system and I love being exposed to that much literature on a daily basis. You can look for my recommendations on upcoming books that I have reiewed based on the Advance Reader’s Copies I receive from publishers.
In both reading and writing I enjoy historical biographies, particularly British Royalty or history pertaining to the British Isles. My primary preference for fiction genre is fantasy, but I am always exploring new challenges for myself in my writing. I also love a good mystery or suspense-thriller novel. As a librarian I have a variety of new authors at my finger tips and I love being able to discover new writers and genres outside my comfort zone.
At my library I run a monthly book club called Themes & Treats where I choose a different theme each month and all the members read a book of their choice that pertains to the theme. We drink Starbucks coffee and eat sweet treats while discussing the books we’ve read. This is a great way to receive recommendations from friends (or even strangers!) and have thoughtful discussions with other book lovers. You can look for our monthly meeting recaps on here as well and maybe find new books for yourself to read.
My love for books even extends to “saving” those doomed to be destroyed. Any books I come across that are old, scheduled to be recycled, or beyond repair, I repurpose them and create one-of-a-kind upcycled book crafts that are for sale on my Etsy shop, The Bibliophilia Co. These items make great gifts and I love doing custom orders that can personalized for you or a friend for any occasion.
All writing advice, opinions, and criticism is very welcome. Feel free to contact me for suggestions and questions. I am always open to collaboration requests as well, because I feel we writers learn best from each other. Enjoy!
